It's been a rollercoaster of a Valentines week if we've ever had one! I swear, I feel like I live in a circus! Since Preston missed school last Friday because of his sickness, he didn't get the Valentines list from his teacher until Monday. Thankfully, he already knew everyone in the class' names, so he had finished his Valentines over the weekend. The note also said that he could make a box if he wanted (as opposed to the paper sacks the teacher hands out to decorate), and of course, he did. I found 2 boxes and we wrapped them up and taped them together and he made this cool monster that ate the cards.
He was pretty proud of it, too! All the while, though, as he was making it, he'd cry out in pain and grab his ear. I'd already given him Motrin, and it was day 4 of Biaxin, so I was a little concerned. By bedtime, he was miserable. By miserable, I mean, MISERABLE! He was crying. He wasn't due for more Motrin, we used his numbing drops, which made the pain worse, tried the heating pad on high, and he still cried for nearly 2 hours before he finally fell asleep- for 30 minutes... He was up pretty much the entire night. So we headed back to the dr. first thing the next morning and his ears were horrible. The Biaxin hadn't touched the infection- in fact, they were worse than they were 5 days before! So she prescribed Clindamycin (the "not so tasty medicine"), this time in a pill- his first, and he swallowed those things like they were nothing! For once, I think swallowing gum for years actually did some good! Today we're on day 4 of the Clindamycin and although the pain has decreased, there's still pain, and the poor kid can't hear thunder.
We weren't able to get in to see his ENT until March 15th. An entire month. I'm praying that this clears it up because right now, we're right back where we were when he was 4 and this all started. Zithromax doesn't work, Biaxin isn't working, and now we're on the strongest antibiotic that he can take. The last thing I want is for him to need a 4th set of tubes, but I feel it's inevitable at this point. We can't keep going through antibiotics like this, and I know both his ped. and ENT feel the same way. So, we wait.

At it again
Is it spring yet? I honestly can't be more ready. Ready for some warmer weather so we can get out and get some fresh air. We've definitely gotten a true winter this year with single-digit temps and 12 straight days with snow on the ground (although none since). What I'm REALLY ready for, is for cold season to be OVER!!!
Yep, you probably guessed it, the sickies have invaded once again, brought to us courtesy of Preston- the child could win awards for this! He started out with a soupy cough Sunday that progressed each day. He started with a low-grade temp. Wed night that was gone by morning, and the same thing Thursday, except he started complaining about his ears, too. Well, he was at the dr. first thing yesterday with a respiratory infection and both ears infected. Triple wham-o. So he's back on his Biaxin and has to use his albuterol inhaler 4 times a day. Oh, how I loathe albuterol. He was up until 10:30 last night with all kinds of shenanigans because he was so wired. Today we were able to start it early in the day and get his 4 doses in with enough time for him to not be so wound up at bedtime. Unfortunately, he's complaining more about his ears hurting than he was yesterday, which is what happened the last time when it ended up hurting him for 5 days before he got relief. If that's the case this time, the Biaxin may not be working like it used to, and that means new tubes. I'm praying that's not the case.
The highlight of our day was getting to see Granny and Pa. They got back from 4 weeks in Florida yesterday so we spent the afternoon with them. Seth, Diana and the boys came, so the kids had the best afternoon! We hadn't seen them since Christmas, so it was nice to get to chat with them. Granny had brought back some fake mustaches she'd gotten from Susan and the boys enjoyed them! Seth put one on and looked exactly like Hitler. It was hilarious!
